TenTrade, a Seychelles-based CFD broker with a prop trading arm, has appointed Wilfred Obasi as its Regional Director for Africa. He steps into the role previously held by Victor Ufot, taking on oversight of the firm's commercial operations across the continent.
Who Obasi is
Obasi spent thirteen years at Exinity, a broker with a well-established presence in emerging markets. His most recent position there was Partner Enablement Manager, based in Dubai, a role that sits at the intersection of distribution strategy and relationship management. Before that, his work spanned client acquisition and business development across FX and CFD markets, with a consistent focus on African traders and introducing brokers. That background is relevant context: partner enablement is not a sales title in the traditional sense. It typically involves building the systems, training, and support structures that allow IBs and regional partners to operate effectively. Someone coming from that function into a regional director seat brings a distribution-first mindset, which tends to matter more in Africa than in more saturated markets where direct retail acquisition dominates.
What the appointment signals
TenTrade operates as a hybrid: a retail CFD broker registered offshore in Seychelles that also runs a prop trading product. That structure is increasingly common in the sector, and the African market has become a meaningful target for firms built this way. Retail FX participation across sub-Saharan Africa and North Africa has grown steadily, and the prop trading layer adds a second acquisition channel, attracting traders who want evaluation-based funding rather than depositing their own capital. Placing a regional director with deep IB and partner experience into that environment suggests TenTrade is prioritising distribution infrastructure over pure direct-to-retail marketing. For traders and introducing brokers in the region, the practical implication is that the firm is investing in the support layer, not just the advertising layer.
What to watch
Leadership transitions at the regional level in prop-hybrid firms are worth tracking for a specific reason: the regional director often sets the tone for how disputes, payouts, and partner relationships are handled locally. Obasi's Exinity tenure gives him a reference point in a firm that has operated in African markets for years and built a recognisable compliance and support structure. Whether TenTrade's operational standards match that benchmark is something traders and IBs in the region will assess over time. The appointment itself is a staffing move, not a policy change, but the profile of the hire is a reasonable indicator of intent.
